Definition[:
Also called vowel rhyme; a rhyme in which the same vowel sounds are used with different consonants.
Example[:
Flash with a rash gimme my cash flickin' ash
Runnin with my money, son, go out with a blast.
Significance[:
I think it's important to use assonance because, like alliteration, it's fun and interesting. Reading it is easy, however writing it can be a trick. Assonance is just one of those things that doesn't seem so important, but without it, something's just missing. If you have the consonants sounds (alliteration), why not vowels?
